Java Talk February 6, 2025

What a wonderful time we had at the Cicero, N.Y. Historical Society last Thursday. Yes it was blustery, but we had a great showing of members that braved the snow to support this great organization.

The Historical Society is on the orginial site of the one room school house that was built in 1854. And was functional up until the 1950s! When home owners on Lake Shore Road discovered the log cabin, originally two stories, was rebuilt on this site in the 1980s. In 2003, with the help of the Town of Cicero, the Museum was built. Since then the caring staff has been gathering items through donations or on loan. One of the oldest items is the orginial plank road. Did you know Central New York has the distinction of being the site of the first plank road in the United States! Keeping the “PLANK ROAD” in our Chamber name keeps the vision of the original plank road alive – Where Commerce & Community Meets.

In November 2023 the school house roof failed. Through the help of the Town of Cicero they now have a new roof! Keep an eye out for the official celebration in Spring 2025.
