Java Talk August 3rd 2023

Thank you Annie-Laurie of Hunter Hollow Bunny Bed and Breakfast for hosting our August Java Talk. After a bit of conversation while enjoying some breakfast goodies, everyone circled around for introductions and “elevator pitch” ~ sharing who they, where they work, what’s happening in their business and what they have to offer people & other businesses in our community. Thank you everyone for coming out to join in our Morning Networking event. Thank you Pixelit & Zach for showing off the event with your mobile billboard! We love it!!

Annie-Laurie then gave us a tour of her facility while sharing about the mission of Hunter Hollow Bunny Bed and Breakfast. Compared to 2018, the first year of independently caring for domestic rabbits when they adopted out 15 bunnies, as of July this year they have had over 90 adoptions. Bunny’s have a 30-day gestation period, which can often lead unprepared families to being overwhelmed with baby bunnies. Right now HHBB&B has about 18 bunny’s on pregnancy watch.

HHBB&B has been called on over the past few months to take in bunny’s that are at-risk from hoarding or other difficult situations. HHBB&B evaluates all the bunnies, has them spayed/neutered and vaccinated, then gets them ready for adoption. The cost for this is upwards of $500 per bunny. HHBB&B currently has about 110 bunnies ready to adopt. The cost to adopt is $175.

We were excited to celebrate with Annie-Laurie the 1 year anniversary of the annex. This multi-purpose building will soon be transformed into a winter home for the bunnies. HHBB&B is looking for estimates for insulating the building and eventually a boiler for the radiant heat floor elements. If you can help, please reach out to Annie-Laurie.

The tour included the multiple buildings currently housing the bunnies awaiting adoption. Every weekend every cage is cleaned. It take a crew of 10-15 to accomplish. Some weekends they have just 3 or 4. If you would like to volunteer, perform community service or see what taking care of bunnies is all about, HHBB&B would love to have you. Everyone 8yrs old and older are welcome to join in. Those younger than 8yrs old would need to come and work along side their parent or other adult. Reach out today to see how you can help HHBB&B.

On Mondays from 3-5pm, HHBB&B hosts reading to a bunny time. Kids entering 2nd grade – 6th grade, spend time reading one-on-one to a bunny. Space is limited, so if you’d like to join in, contact Annie-Laurie.

For all you gardeners or community gardening groups, HHBB&B has compost available! Stop by with your buckets over the weekend when clean-out is being done or contact Annie-Laurie to set up a time to load up your pick-up.

If you have any questions about the organization or the bunnies, please reach out to Annie-Laurie Hunter at hello@HunterHollow.org or 315-463-6757. Included with today’s photos is a flyer on How to Help. First and foremost is – ADOPT, don’t shop. Check out all the great bunnies ready to go home today – https://hunterhollow.org/adopt/.
